Once Netscape has been installed you will have a Netscape icon on your desktop. The first time you run the program you will be asked to create a profile. Use the information found on this page to create that profile. If a profile already exist when you start the program you will see the browser window shown below.
To edit the current profile and personalize your settings click on "Edit" and then click on "Preferences." This will open the "Preferences" window shown below.
To edit your mail preferences click on the + next to "Mail & Newsgroups" and then click on "Identity" you will see a window like the one below.
When you send email your name will appear in the From field of the outgoing
message. Type your name as you would like it to appear where it says "Your
name"
In the "Email address" field you will put your email address for example
jdoe@waverly.net or jdoe@centerville.net etc.
Now in the list of categories click on "Mail Servers" you will see
a window like the one below. (Earlier versions of Netscape will look
a little different than the one shown. There will be a "more options" button.)I
most cases the incoming mail server and the outgoing mail server are the
same.
To change the incoming mail server name click on "Edit" to display the "Mail Servers Properties" shown below. ( In earlier versions just re-type the correct mail server name.)
The Incoming mail server will be different for each domain. For example
the waverly.net mail server name is shown in the illustration above. The
centerville.net mail server would be "mail.centerville.net" and the
mail server for dickson.net would be "mail.dickson.net". The mail
server for mcewen.net is "firestar.dickson.net". (Your internet
account must exist on the appropriate mail server in order for your mail
to work.)
In the "User Name" field enter your user name. If you do not want to type your password each time you check your mail put a check in the box next to "Remember Password". (In earlier versons of Netscape click on the "more options" button to find these check boxes.) If you want Netscape to notify you of new mail put a check in the box next to "Check for mail every 20 minutes". Once all the information has been entered click on "OK".
Your outgoing mail server will be the same has your incoming.
Once the above steps have been completed you should be able to send
and receive mail when you are online. You can test you mail my sending
your self a message. Remember, any time you need help with
Netscape hit the F1 key on your keyboard while the program is running.
