Chief's Message (1.59KB)

Welcome to our web site. I am going to use this segment to keep our citizens informed of current events happening within our city.

The Three Rivers Amateur Transmitting Society just recently installed a new 2-meter repeater on the water tower located on Bratcher Street that will enable us to have direct radio communication with the National Weather Service in Nashville, Tennessee.
They also provided a new transmitter for the Emergency Operations Center at the Station 2 Fire Hall. We will have the ablilty to communicate back and fourth with the NWS in the event of a severe weather situation from there or with a portable radio. This equipment was provided to the City at no cost, for this we are very greatful!

We are very concerned about your safety and we encourage you to purchase a NOAA weather radio for your home or business. When in stock, they can be purchased at the McEwen City Hall, which are provided by the Humphreys County Emergency Management. Otherwise, they can be purchased at the RadioShack in Dickson or at WalMart in Dickson or Waverly. Currently, weather radios have a feature available to allow you to program them to your specific location. These radios can hold up to 15 different counties. This capability alerts you to emergencies declared for that specific location. The NOAA weather transmitter for McEwen and surrounding areas is located near the William J. Peeler Industrial Park. Fortunately, because of this location McEwen receives a very strong signal from the National Weather Service. These new types of radios are known as the WRSAME weather radio. The programmable code or FIPS code for Humphreys County is 047085.

We have installed four new Tornado Warning Sirens in McEwen that will work in conjunction with the Siren that is currently located at Station 2 Fire Hall. All 5 will go off at the same time and can be set off from either the Fire Hall or the Sheriff's Office in Waverly by the Fire Department's Radio System.

On March 14, 2000 the DARE graduation was held for McEwen Schools. We were very pleased with the DARE program this year and are looking forward to next year's program. We recently began a new program at McEwen Schools called GREAT or Gang Resistance Education And Training and is being taught by Trooper Underwood of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He is a long time friend of Officer Jeff Rye of our department.

We welcome your email and invite you to call or visit us at city hall.
